Orchard Park is a major mixed-use development including over 900  homes on the northern fringe of Cambridge. Gallagher Estates, the lead developers and South Cambridge District Council wanted Orchard Park to be an attractive and distinctive settlement with well designed architecture, infrastructure and open spaces.

Patricia MacKinnon-Day was appointed as lead artist to the master-planning process. Through public engagement, research and a lateral approach to planning issues, MacKinnon-Day identified ways of integrating the new settlement with surrounding communities and the City of Cambridge through a series of artists projects. Artists Lubna Chowdhary, Richard Heeps and Kirsten Lavers were commissioned to undertake projects for Orchard Park.

'Making Visible the Invisible' was developed by Commissions East, Gallagher Estates, Shape Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire District Council with additional funding from Arts & Business New Partners and PROJECT - a national funding scheme supported by Arts & Business and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and administered by Public Art South West.

A publication about the project, 'Home Grown - Art and the Cultivation of a Neighbourhood' was published in 2009.
