chemistry of health building

The University of Cambridge commissioned artist Jacob Van der Beugel to make a work for their new Chemistry of Health building which houses researchers working to investigate and combat disorders that include Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
Working closely with scientists and the buildings architects, the artist designed a 10-metre series of handmade aggregate panels adjoining the main entrance to the building that depict the changes to proteins and neurons resulting from ageing and degenerative diseases.
Achieved through the use of colour, ceramic aggregates and stones the work is a dynamic and poignant focus to the façade of the building, highlighting its important research role.
